Step 3: Print The Image
The heart of the DecalPRO system
is the special paper, called "Toner Transfer Paper",
that you print the image onto.
The image HAS to be printed using
a toner-based system, such as a photocopier or laser printer.
If you only have an inkjet printer,
you'll need to print out your image on regular paper, then take it to a
copy center
and have them use a photocopier
to print it on the "Toner Transfer Paper".
Since this special paper is $1.50
a sheet, if you are going to a copy center, you're going to want to have
a full sheet
of artwork. I chose the LaserJet
printer approach. I bought an HP model 1020 LaserJet printer for $99 on
sale at an office supply place, and got a $30 mail in rebate! It's not
any bigger than an inkjet printer, and it works fantastically well. Yep,
it's a black & white printer, because that's all you need to make white,
chrome or gold decals. And it has an adjustible single sheet feed slot,
so that I can use a piece of Toner Transfer Paper cut down to about 3.5"
x 4.25" (a full sheet cut into 6 pieces).
